About Us
James Rushton, the founder of Rushton’s Game, has been hunting since he was a child. Whether fishing, beating or shooting, James is never happier than out in the countryside with his dogs. Disliking the trajectory of supermarket meat, with food miles, chemicals, and poor quality, James began to teach himself butchery. Utilising every part of the animal and ensuring that we always work with natural cycles is central to our values at c. So, all the animal is used where possible, whether as cuts of meat for our customers or treats for the dogs, we ensure that we reduce our waste at every step of the process.

After incredible feedback from friends and family, James realised that more and more people wanted free-range, sustainable, and ethical meat. So, James fulfilled all the necessary criteria to have a fully functional butchery room at home, tuned his butchery skills, and Rushton’s Game was born. James travels around Staffordshire sourcing local game, as well as venturing into the Scottish highlands to stalk deer in their wild habit.

We believe that food should be sustainable, it should be ethical. We believe that we can all take responsibility for our food choices, and also, that good food should be delicious and enjoyable! Fast food, processed food, microwaved portions, this isn’t food. Food should be cooked, anticipated, enjoyed, and remembered. Food brings us together as a family, as friends. Food is there at the centre of so many of our celebrations – Easter, Christmas, summer barbeques and we believe that it should always be enjoyable, delicious, and sustainable.

We think good quality should be affordable, and work hard to be able to give our customers high-quality game meat at an affordable price. We are all aware of the cost of living crisis, and the rising supermarket prices. Don’t assume that small businesses will be more expensive, often small businesses can be more adaptable and can find it easier to keep their costs down when compared with large corporations. When you shop from a small business, that money goes directly into the local economy, as supposed to your spend at a supermarket, which goes to wealthy shareholders.
